Just as a personal side note, I also loved that there was a Dutch man who showed up later in the book with a slight variation to my maiden name. The story, however, prefigures the work of Joseph Conrad (I'm thinking _Heart of Darkness_, but also "An Outpost of Progress") and even post-colonial fiction. There are certain drawbacks; personally, I think Gray rides the Bible-influence hobby horse a bit too much, and I disagree with some of his opinions (only natural, and he doesn't overburden us with them), and certain parts of the book do seem a bit long-winded. Black Magician series final book is the one that made me love the series. There is no other reference that is as fast, convenient, and portable - everything you need to know, from the federal sources you trust. I found the book a very enjoyable read. There was a truly good book to be written here, and Scheffer has failed far worse in that project than ever he did in the events that it attempts to frame.

The humor and flow of the boom keep it an easy and fun read. The book had a lot of potential but it seem to miss the mark. Shortz's fans whose limit is Thursday's level of difficulty, this collection includes many that are a stretch for me.
